Invited Session: Smart Technologies
Ammonia Control in Landfill Leachate Treatment (0.5 CEU)
Monday, September 25, 2017
15:30 – 16:00
Ammonia reduction is critical in many landfill leachate discharges. Competing biological and physical/chemical technologies are compared for effectiveness, cost and operation. Three site actual performances are presented. Traditional biological treatment for aerobic and direct conversion ammonia and complete nitrogen removal, as well as air stripping and ammonia recovery are shown, and examples of low cost lagoon nitrification for low cost, cold weather operation are presented. Innovative and power saving approaches with cutting edge technology, such as electro-flotation, electro-coagulation/flocculation are discussed, and comparative selection procedures for all alternatives are shown.
By attending this presentation, participants will better be able to compare alternative technologies, improve operational effectiveness, and save time and money in planning needed improvements.
